Saleh Al-Ja’frawi, one of Gaza's most well known journalists, has been killed, reportedly by Israeli-backed gangs, just days after the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas took effect.

28-year-old Ja’frawi, who was a social media influencer before the war, had gone missing on the morning of Sunday, Oct. 12 before he was found later dead.

According to Palestinian sources, he was shot and killed by armed militia in Gaza City's Sabra neighborhood, where he had been covering the destruction after Israeli troops had withdrawn.

Other reports said he had been documenting clashes between Hamas and the armed militias.

Palestinian sources told Al Jazeera that there had been clashes between Hamas and fighters from the Doghmush clan in Sabra, but this has not been confirmed by local authorities.

An official from Gaza's Ministry of the Interior told Al Jazeera that Ja’frawi had been killed by "an armed militia affiliated with the [Israeli] occupation."

Al-Ja’frawi, who was also a singer and ranked table tennis player, had survived two years of Israel's genocide, despite receiving repeated threats from Israel due to his work.

His death came just days after he was celebrating the ceasefire in Gaza.

In his last video, he had been documenting Palestinians rebuilding their homes following the ceasefire.
