stefan reina swiss commentator call out israeli zionist olympics genocide

This Swiss Olympics commentator kept reminding viewers on live TV that an Israeli bobsled athlete is a Zionist who openly supports Israel’s genocide in Gaza.

Stefan Reina of Radio Television Suisse (RTS) repeatedly called out the Israeli bobsleigh team’s pilot Adam Edelman’s actions when he appeared on screen during the race on Monday Feb. 16.

”Edelman, who notably said about the Israeli military intervention that it was, I also quote here, “most morally just war in history,” he said.

Reina said Edelman had asked his followers to cheer on Ward Fawarsy, another Israeli Olympic bobsled athlete who participated in an Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip in 2023.

And went on to say that “one can therefore question” Edelman’s presence during the Games, since the IOC had said that athletes who have “actively supported the war by participating in pro-war events, and by being engaged militarily or through their activities on their social media, were not eligible to participate.”

Reina pointed out that Russian athletes now have to compete under a neutral banner due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and highlighted the case of Vladyslav Heraskevych, the Ukrainian Skeleton athlete who was disqualified over his refusal to give up his helmet that bore images of Ukrainian athletes killed by Russia’s war.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not issue a statement on the incident, but its spokesman said the Olympics are about “bringing people together despite what’s happening in the rest of the world,” adding that Reina’s comments are a matter for RTS.

RTS later removed the two-minute clip from its website that night, saying the content, while factual, was too lengthy and “inappropriate for sports commentary”, but the clip went viral anyway.

Israel's Olympic Committee condemned the comments as "one-sided, political, and inflammatory," harming the Olympic spirit, according to Israeli outlet YNet.

The Israeli bobsleigh team finished last out of the 26 teams.
