On May 20, Taiwan’s new pro-independence president took office.

William Lai, the former vice president, took over from Tsai Ing-wen, the country’s first woman president at the end of her eight year term.

This makes their party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), the first to win three consecutive terms in Taiwan’s history.

We asked young people who attended the inauguration what they hope to see from the government in the next four years.
