Two Teenage Girls Were Murdered Within Days Of Each Other In Argentina, And People Are Demanding Justice

Thousands of people took to the streets in Argentina to protest the murder of women and girls in the country after two teenage girls were killed within days of each other.
On Saturday, May 30, police found 14-year-old Agostina Vega killed outside the city of Córdoba.
Police said she had been strangled and later dismembered.
Vega had last been seen on May 23, when a taxi driver dropped her outside the home of a 33-year-old family friend Claudio Barrelier.
Video footage showed her entering Barrelier’s home and never leaving.
Police have arrested Barrelier as a suspect.
He had previously faced kidnapping charges and was detained for 20 days in 2025 and later released on bail.
On May 28, police found the body of 17-year-old Dulce Candia in a septic tank of an abandoned building in the town of Eldorado.
Officers arrested the man, who they said had maintained a “romantic relationship” with Candia, according to the Guardian.
Authorities are investigating both cases as femicides, also known as the murder of women because of their gender.
Their deaths came days before Argentina held their annual women’s femicide march “Ni una menos” — Spanish for “not a single woman less” — on Wednesday, Jun. 3.
Thousands took to the streets to demand justice for Vega, Candia and the thousands of victims of femicide across the country.
In Argentina, a man kills a woman every 36 hours, according to women’s rights groups.
