Sahar Tabar, a 19-year-old Iranian Instagram influencer famous for her heavily distorted selfies that resembled a zombie-like Angelina Jolie, has reportedly been freed from prison after she was given a 10 year sentence earlier this month.
Tabar, whose real name is Fatemeh Khishvand, was arrested in October 2019 under the charges of blasphemy, inciting violence, gaining income through inappropriate means and encouraging young people to corruption, the Guardian reported.
Her Instagram, which had 486,000 followers, was shut down. On Dec. 11, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison for corruption of young people and disrespect for the Islamic Republic, the Guardian reported, citing Tabar’s lawyer.
However, Tabar was reportedly released less than a week later on Thursday Dec. 17, appearing in a short video shared by state-run Rokna news agency that showed her being interviewed but did not include what she said.
Iranian journalist and activist Masih Alinejad also tweeted that Tabar had been freed “after massive media pressure.”
