Spanish footballer Mikel Merino was filmed mimicking US President Donald Trump's dance move, right in front of him, during Spain's World Cup trophy celebrations.

Trump attended the 2026 World Cup final between Spain and Argentina at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on Sunday,  July 19, watching from a VIP box alongside Mexico’s president Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian prime minister Mark Carney.

Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time to win the 2026 World Cup for the second time, following its first title in 2010.

Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented Spain's players with their medals before the trophy lift.

Infantino and Spain's captain Rodri were seen trying to usher Trump off the stage separately, tapping his arm and pointing to the side of the field.

As Trump was finally leaving the stage, he broke into the fist-pumping dance move he has performed at rallies for years and that has since become a viral meme.

30-year-old Merino then mimicked Trump’s dance in front of him.

Spain’s national football team official account later posted a celebration photo that cropped Trump out entirely.

Spanish striker Borja Iglesias had said before the match that he planned to shake Trump's hand after the game because he did not want "to go to prison."

This was not the first time Trump had inserted himself into a football celebration.

At the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final, also held at MetLife Stadium, Trump stood among Chelsea's players on stage as they lifted their trophy after beating Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea's players later said they were confused about whether to wait for him to leave before starting the lift; his son Eric later claimed Chelsea had invited him, though this has not been confirmed.
