Israel Has Bombed Gaza On The Eve Of Eid al-Adha, Killing At Least Nine People And Injuring Dozens Others
The attacks left people to mourn their dead at al-Shifa Hospital instead of celebrating the holiday.
Israel has bombed Gaza on the eve of Eid al-Adha, a major Muslim holiday, killing more than nine people despite the “ceasefire.”
On the eve of Eid, on Tuesday, May 26, Israeli forces launched multiple attacks on a crowded residential area in Gaza City, the roof of another residential building in Gaza City's busiest commercial area, a civilian vehicle and a gathering of civilians in central and southern Gaza.
Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and defense minister Israel Katz said Israel’s military was targeting Hamas’ armed wing’s newly appointed Mohammed Odeh, claiming he was “one of the architects” of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack.
Israel’s military also confirmed the killing of Odeh and said the attack “followed months of intelligence monitoring aimed at tracking the movements of Odeh and his operatives,” according to Al Jazeera.
Odeh had previously headed Hamas’ intelligence division but had reportedly taken over as military commander following Israel’s assassination of his predecessor Izz al-Din al-Haddad, along with his wife and daughter, earlier this month.
Hamas has not issued an official comment.
Israel’s attacks across Gaza on Tuesday killed more than nine people and injured dozens of others.
Families were preparing for the feasts and gatherings of Eid al-Adha at the time of the attacks, leaving them to mourn their dead at al-Shifa Hospital instead of celebrating the holiday.
Israel has violated the “ceasefire” in Gaza over 3,005 times killing more than 906 people since it began on Oct. 10.
