Trump Called This Woman Reporter “Dumb” After She Asked Him About His 400 Million Dollars White House Ballroom
“I doubled the size of it, you dumb person."
US President Donald Trump attacked another woman reporter, calling her a “dumb person”, after she asked about the cost of building Trump’s ballroom at the White House.
In September 2025, the Trump administration announced plans to build a US$200 million brand-new ballroom in the White House’s east wing in an effort to “modernize” the building.
At the time, the administration said most of the money would be donated by Trump and other anonymous donors.
On May 6, Trump announced on Truth Social that the ballroom will be double the size than what was originally planned and the final cost would be “something less than US$400 million”, almost double the cost.
On Tuesday, May 12, ahead of Trump’s departure to meet with China’s president Xi Jinping, Trump defended the ballroom, saying it is “under budget”.
“It’s going up right here. I’ve doubled the size of it because we obviously need that, and we’re right now on budget, under budget, and ahead of schedule,” he told reporters.
MS NOW reporter Akayla Gardner then pointed out to Trump that the price of the ballroom had doubled.
“I doubled the size of it, you dumb person. Doubled the size. You are not a smart person,” Trump fired back at Gardner.
This is not the first time Trump has burst at women reporters with insults for following up on questions.
Most recently, he attacked a CNN woman reporter for not smiling and called her “the worst reporter” after she asked him about the survivors of late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and their right to justice.
