How Iran Is Using The War As A Cover To Increase Executions With Iran Human Rights’ Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam At ECPM 2026
Mahmood explains how the Iranian regime has been using the war as a cover to increase executions without facing the usual criticism and condemnation.
Iran has executed at least 56 people over “national security” since March 19, with more than 100 others at risk of execution on similar charges, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said in a statement on Aug. 5, saying he was “alarmed” by the rise in executions and “that capital punishment continues to be used to instill fear among the population and suppress dissent.”
Speaking to Almost at the World Congress Against the Death Penalty in Paris, France, in July, Mahmood, the Director of Center for Human Rights in Iran, explains how the Iranian regime has been using the war as a cover to increase executions without facing the usual criticism and condemnation.
